An unidentified girl was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the old Chandanapuri Ghat area in Ahmednagar district, police told news agency ANI on Monday.

"The body of a girl aged about sixteen to twenty-five years was found behind the Ganpati Temple in the old Chandanapuri Ghat, a mountain pass across the Sangamner tehsil of Ahmednagar district on Sunday evening," Sub Divisional Police Officer Somnath Waghchaure told ANI.

As soon as the information about the body was received, a team of police immediately reached the spot to conduct an investigation, Waghchaure told ANI.

"As per the assessment of a doctor, the body is seven to eight days old. Also, since the body was decomposed, an autopsy was conducted on the spot," the police officer told ANI.

He said that prima facie it appears to be a case of murder and that things will become clear only after investigation.

In another case, the police in Maharashtra's Latur district have traced a 17-year-old girl nearly 7 months after she was "kidnapped" and arrested the man she was living with, an official told PTI on Sunday.

The teen went missing from Nilanga tehsil following which the police registered a case under Indian Penal Code section 363 (kidnapping) on a complaint by her kin. A team guided by Superintendent of Police Somay Munde recently tracked her down to Solapur district. She had "married" a man and was living with him, the official told PTI.

The man has been arrested, he added.

Meanwhile, a 54-year-old man died after he was slapped by a State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) jawan during an argument over the latter's car headlight in Nagpur city, an official told PTI on Sunday.

The incident took place at Mata Mandir area under Wathoda police station on Thursday night when accused Nikhil Gupta (30) arrived there to visit his sister. When Gupta was parking his car, the vehicle's headlight beam struck the face of victim Muralidhar Ramraoji Neware, a resident of the same locality, the official told PTI.

Neware apparently politely told Gupta to readjust the light beam but the SRPF jawan got angry, leading to an altercation between the two. Neware collapsed to the ground after Gupta slapped him hard. He was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital but died on Saturday, the official told PTI.

The police have registered a case against Gupta under Indian Penal Code section 304 (homicide not amounting to murder), the official told PTI.
