New website helps Puneites find rooms and roomies of their preference and budget for absolutely free

If you want to find someone to share a rented flat or even a room with you, it is not your broker you need to call. Scores of young Puneites who are banking on the innovative website pighunt.in to do the job for them for free.

Udit Agarwal (29), a small-town businessman shifted to Pune in May for a three-month visit and did not like the idea of paying a broker a month's rent as brokerage, when he needed the place for such a short period. "I logged on to

and sought an arrangement whereby someone who had a rented room would take me in for a consideration. In a week, I got just the room I was looking for without paying anything extra," said Agarwal.u00a0

Nipa Dutta (21), an MBA student decided to shift from her hostel to a flat recently. "My father was against the idea. He refused to pay me the amount I would need as deposit and brokerage. Someone told me about pighunt. I tried it out, and in 15 days, I met my roommate who already had a flat. I got what I wanted and saved a lot of money too," said Dutta.

Pighunt was created in the first week of May by friends Pratheesh Nair (26), entrepreneur and IT professional Pranav Taneja (26) who say the purpose of creating the website is to help people find their ideal roommate.

This the website achieves by allowing you to specify the sort of roommate you would prefer u00e2u0080u0093 vegetarian, non-vegetarian, smoker or non-smoker, student or working professionals. In a short span of two months the website has managed to get 800 registered members.

"When we shifted to Pune a year-and-a-half ago, we found it extremely difficult to get a suitable place to stay. Once, when my landlord at Koregaon Park threw me out, I had to find a shelter in the next 12 hours without help from any quarter. So, when Pranav came up with the idea of helping newcomers to the city find rooms, or even homes online, it sounded exciting. After much thinking, we zeroed in on pighunt as a name because its quaintness gives it great recall value," said Pratheesh Nair.
