SC delivers Ayodhya verdict: Temple at disputed site, alternative plot for mosque

The Supreme Court will pronounce its historic verdict on a batch of a petition against the 2010 Allahabad High Court order in the politically-sensitive Ramjanmbhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case on Saturday morning. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed for calm ahead of the verdict as security has been beefed in Uttar Pradesh especially in Ayodhya. School and colleges are shut in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi and prohibitory orders have been clamped in several places across the country. Mumbai Police, too, are on high alert, ANI reported.

'Ensure everything remains peaceful in city'

Mumbai police have also been busy conducting several Mohalla Committee (also known as Peace Committee) meetings. More than 50 meetings have been organised across the city in the past month. Efforts being taken by Mumbai police are showing some positive results. On Friday, during the special prayers, there were announcements made across all the mosques in Mumbai. We believe in our Constitution and have to ensure that everything remains peaceful in the city," Imams (priest) of all mosques have told worshippers. Cops, social media firms to tackle hate content in real time

A daylong seminar was conducted at the Mantralaya on Friday where legal teams of WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram guided over 50 police officers from all districts and commissionerates on how to deal with inflammatory content. A dedicated team has been formed by the Cyber department to keep a close eye on social media accounts which may try to disturb harmony, especially in Mumbai, which witnessed the 1993 communal riots. Schools, colleges across several states to remain closed today

Schools, colleges and other educational institutes will remain closed in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka and Delhi. The Karnataka government on Friday declared that all schools and colleges in the state will remain closed on November 9. Jamia Millia Islamia in Delh said there will be no classes in the varsity, as a precautionary measure.
