A total of 219 candidates are in the fray in the first phase of the three-phased Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls as 25 nominations were withdrawn on Friday, the last day for withdrawal of candidature, officials said. A total of 280 nominations were filed for 24 Assembly segments in seven districts of Jammu and Kashmir that are going to polls on September 18. However, after scrutiny, the nominations of 36 candidates were rejected, while on Friday, 25 candidates withdrew their nominations, leaving 219 nominees in the fray, the officials said.

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has constituted a team of young advocates to collect data of homeless people living on the roadsides in the capital city. The order was passed Thursday by a bench of Justice Rajan Rai and Justice OP Shukla on a PIL filed by local advocate Jyoti Rajput. The court said the order was passed because the government was not presenting this data and it was being said that this data may be very voluminous and hence it will take time to collect it. The next hearing in the case will be on September 30.

Leader of Opposition in Himachal Pradesh Assembly, Jai Ram Thakur, on Friday alleged in Vidhan Sabha that his official residence here was under surveillance and said a drone took four rounds and almost reached his doors and windows. Raising a point of order during the question hour, Thakur said when he enquired about the drone, it came to his notice that the drone was being operated from the residence of the Shimla superintendent of police (SP) located nearby.
