As of January 17, more than 73 million pilgrims have attended the Mahakumbh Mela, as per the released data. Mahamandaleshwar Narayanand Giri Maharaj, also known as the 'Golden Baba,' was spotted wearing over 6 kilograms of jewellery during the event.
Swami Narayanand Giri Maharaj, a Hindu spiritual leader from Kerala, explained that the jewellery is dedicated to Hindu deities like Natraj, Narishma, Murugan, and Bhadrakali. The jewellery includes rudraksha, coral, crystals, moonga, and other precious stones such as ruby, sapphire, and emerald, which are used during puja.
The 'Golden Baba' emphasised that the jewellery provides him with "positive energy," which he believes is reflected in others during worship. Narayanand Giri Maharaj started wearing the jewellery 15 years ago and explained that it was gifted to him by his father.
He expressed that his attire and jewellery help spread positive energy, as he believes they attract attention and respect, especially in the religious context. The Mahakumbh Mela has attracted a large influx of devotees, including notable personalities like Laurene Powell, wife of late Apple CEO Steve Jobs.
Powell, who has been deeply influenced by Hindu teachings, intends to join Sanatan Dharma and immerse herself in the traditions of the faith, according to her spiritual leader Swami Kailashanand Giri. The first Amrit Snan, held on Makar Sankranti, marked the beginning of the Mela, with devotees from across the world participating in the sacred dip at the Triveni Sangam, blending into the spiritual atmosphere.
