Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra condemned Shah's remarks, stating that such insults to Dr Ambedkar would not be tolerated by the people of India. Priyanka Gandhi accused the BJP-led government of being "desperate" and using distractions to avoid discussing critical issues such as the Adani matter.
She dismissed allegations against Rahul Gandhi, asserting that "false and baseless" FIRs filed against him reflect the government’s desperation. The remarks at the centre of the controversy include Shah's statement in Rajya Sabha: “If they had taken the name of God so many times instead of Ambedkar, they would have got heaven for seven lives.”
SP MP Akhilesh Yadav demanded that Amit Shah apologise for his remarks, stating that Babasaheb's Constitution is the guiding force for the nation's progress. SP MP Dimple Yadav echoed the call for an apology, criticising the BJP for undermining Dr Ambedkar's legacy and principles.
On Thursday, INDIA Bloc MPs led by Rahul Gandhi staged a protest in Parliament premises, calling for Shah’s resignation over his controversial remarks. Many Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and SP MPs, wore blue as a symbolic protest in honour of Dr Ambedkar.
BSP Chief Mayawati condemned Shah's remarks, describing them as an insult to Dr Ambedkar and a grave affront to his dignity and legacy. Mayawati demanded that Amit Shah retract his statement and apologise, warning of nationwide resentment among Dr Ambedkar's followers.
The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die as protests over Amit Shah's remarks continued to disrupt proceedings in the House. Opposition parties accused the BJP of attempting to weaken the Constitution and suppress democratic principles through its actions and rhetoric.
