Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has launched the "Cashless Treatment" scheme to help road accident victims. Under this scheme, the government will cover treatment costs up to Rs 1.5 lakh for up to seven days after an accident. If the victim dies in a hit-and-run, the government will provide Rs 2 lakh to their family. The scheme begins as soon as the police are notified of the accident within 24 hours. Gadkari highlighted road safety as the government`s top priority, citing that nearly 1.8 lakh people died in road accidents in 2024, with 30,000 deaths due to not wearing helmets. He also mentioned the growth of India`s automobile industry, now the third-largest in the world.
