Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took the oath as the new Lok Sabha member from Wayanad, Kerala, on Thursday morning. She wore a traditional Kerala saree called kasavu and held a red-bound copy of the Constitution, a symbol made famous by her brother, Rahul Gandhi, to express concerns about the ruling BJP potentially changing or weakening its principles. Priyanka replaces Rahul as the Wayanad MP after he gave up the seat to focus on his family stronghold in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh. With this, Priyanka becomes the third member of the Gandhi family in Parliament, joining her mother Sonia Gandhi, a Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan. In her speech, Priyanka emphasized the need to strengthen the Congress party.
