Any excuse to stay healthy

Workouts can get extremely boring with running on the same old treadmills and clammy gymnasium mats and machines. Especially if you have been a morninger like me, you will see droopy-eyed souls, who look like they are pushing themselves onto these machines.

There are times when we put off our workouts during busy days of the week and expect to make up for them over the weekend. But frequency is almost always more beneficial than duration when working out.

It is believed that burning the same amount of calories, in five 30-minute workouts works wonders in comparison to two 90-minute sessions a week.

I for one have been baffling with weight loss for a couple of years now, but after you hit 30, it gets lost in the innumerable issues that surround you. And if your life, like mine, is a never-ending merry-go-round of work at office, running around at home, occasional late nights coupled with stress, you are probably left with no other option than to give into fad diets, which we all know are a complete slipshod.

So, what do you do? Either let go of this demon called health, wellness or fitness and shove it into the nearest trashcan or take charge before it's too late.

I would choose the former for now and I'm saying this, because I've just gobbled up one whole pizza with loads of lemon butter sauce thoroughly satisfying but one helluva guilt trip excuse.

But no, I'm still wanting to take charge of my life and am also remembering my fitness instructor who told me once on how these youngsters (and he himself is in his early 20s) don't mind spending two to three thousand bucks on an evening out at a pub drinking, but will think twice, when it comes to signing up for a svelte gym membership, for the same amount.

I don't go to the same gym anymore, but hey buddy, if you're reading this, thank you for those words of wisdom.

It's never too late to make a serious beginning. If gym workouts seem a tad too boring, I know there are a few other more interesting ways to work out like salsa, jive, aqua aerobics or just indulging in some fun sports. But who has all that time in the world to sign up for these fancy drills?

Thankfully, I just receive an email on our apartment group common mail id-and have found a solution to that too. The la-di-da of an apartment that I live in has a bunch of sprightly women, who have come up with meeting in our apartment gym thrice a week. They're going to jive to some peppy dance numbers (thanks to one dancing queen amongst us), with our fitness in mind, as we are all bored of our drab gym routines.

This makes a lot of sense and I'm signing up right away. It is just about an hour in the mornings, before we all set out to our workplaces, and since it is inside our apartment complex, we won't need to face the great Bangalore traffic drill every morning. And of course, have some fun while we're at it too. What say?
