SoBo society should adequately compensate man

The collapse happened on June 17 when Khushrow Boyce was returning from Dadyseth bungalow

This paper reported on a 61-year-old man who has been seriously injured in a wall collapse of a row house, which is part of a swish Kemps Corner housing society complex.

The gent, who is described as an electronic genius by a person who knows him, in the report has sustained grievous injuries to his left arm and has multiple broken ribs.

He is undergoing treatment at a South Mumbai hospital but it will be a while till he can get out of the hospital. The housing society representative has said it is an unfortunate incident. That may very well be the case, but till now, the society has not offered to pay hospital bills or help financially.

While both sides—the society and the injured person’s supporters—differed on various points, the only thing this swish society with some of the city’s most well-known names residing there can do is to offer financial help to this gentleman who escaped with his life because of his quick thinking as he swerved his scooter and turned right as he saw the wall fall.

Expenses will not stop at hospital bills. There will also be considerable expenses towards medication and other charges post discharge from the medical facility. One also has to see if this man will be able to work as dexterously as before as his arm has been broken and he has undergone several surgeries.

It is fair and responsible that the society bears a great chunk of this expense, given the deep pockets its residents must have and unfortunately the accident has happened on their premises.

It will be disappointing if the society members do not have the common decency or courtesy and sense of fairness and justice to see that this senior citizen  is adequately compensated.
