German flag carrier Lufthansa is offering holidaymakers compensation if their hoped-for sun-drenched summer holiday is washed out, the company said yesterday.
Sun worshippers can claim 20 euros (Rs 1,360) for every rainy day, up to a maximum of 200 euros (Rs 13,600).
Lufthansa defines a rainy day as one during which at least five millimetres (0.2 inches) of rain per square metre falls.
"If the sunny stay hoped for by many is spoiled byrain, maybe 20 euros compensation ... will brighten the mood," said the airline in a statement.
The offer applies to 36 European and worldwide destinations, including Barcelona, Istanbul, Madrid, Rome, Dubai, Cairo, New York, Tel Aviv and Washington.
The Lufthansa 'sunshine rate' is available until August 18 and is valid on flights departing betweenu00a0 September 1 to October 31 to 36 destinations.
Washed out travellers should send their travel vouchers, boarding passes and a list of rainy days to the insurer once they return.
The deal came days after Lufthansa posted a weak set of results, with passenger numbers down nearly five per cent on the previous year.
