Andrew Symonds' inglorious exit has opened an unexpected door for Cameron White and the young all-rounder says he is ready to contribute his mite to help Australia lift the Twenty20 World Cup.

"It's all happened so quickly - it's really exciting to get the call up," an excited White said.

"I was pretty resigned to having missed out and not playing any cricket for a while longer, which has been the way things have gone this year," he told 'Herald Sun'.

White was chosen as a replacement for Symonds, who was thrown out of the squad after an alcohol related problem.

White said it was disappointing for the team that things panned out this way and it wasn't an ideal situation for him to be included in the team.

"I don't think anyone likes to see upheaval or drama of this nature, but it really is out of my hands," said White.

"All I can do is seize the opportunity, hopefully get a game and do my best to help Australia win the tournament.

"It is a very professional and talented group and I'm sure we can go all the way," he added.

White featured in the Australian ODI squad in South Africa earlier this year but didn't get a match. His Indian Premier League campaign was also spent warming the bench but the all-rounder insisted he was in good shape.

"I haven't picked up a bat or ball since the last two weeks of the IPL, so if nothing else I'll be fresh," White said jokingly.

"But seriously, I've been doing a lot of fitness work, I'm in good shape and I really am very excited about the chance to play some cricket again, particularly on that stage," he added.

White is likely to play in Australia's second preliminary round match, against Sri Lanka at Trent Bridge on Monday.
