BCCI official: Hopes of Indo-Pak cricket series as good as over

The much-awaited series between India and Pakistan is as good as shelved.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials have almost resigned to the fact that the scheduled series with the arch-rivals neighbours won’t take place at a neutral venue in Sri Lanka.

Although Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan fired a final ultimatum of 48 hours on Thursday for the BCCI to respond for the proposed series, the Indian government is yet to give a green signal to the board.

The Indian team is set to leave for Australia for an ODI series on January 5 and if the series against Pakistan has to take place, it should conclude before December 30.

“There is virtually no time left now and any hopes of playing a series with Pakistan is as good as over.

There is no indication from the Indian government as yet. Without their clearance, the BCCI cannot send the Indian team to play against Pakistan. We have made this clear to the PCB as well,” a top BCCI official told mid-day yesterday.
