Home team succeeds in dismissing the West Indian big-hitter cheaply and register comprehensive 58-run victory over RCB
Mumbai Indians bowlers Lasith Malinga and Mitchell Johnson did well to keep Royal Challengers Bangalore’s big-hitter Chris Gayle silent in the first five overs of the RCB chase in their Pepsi Indian Premier League clash at the Wankhede Stadium last night.

Consequently, the West Indian lost his cool and perished in the deep, well caught by Ambati Rayudu on the ropes off Harbhajan Singh for just 18 runs off 20 balls.
The enthusiastic Harbhajan immediately broke into the Gangnam Style dance — something the West Indian himself is known for — to celebrate the prized scalp. Having lost Gayle early, it was always going to be difficult for RCB to chase down MI’s near-imposing total of 194-7 off their 20 overs.
MI pacer Dhawal Kulkarni made a smashing IPL-VI debut accounting for the wickets of RCB opener Tillakaratne Dilshan (13), skipper Virat Kohli (1) and AB De Villiers (2) to finish with 3-19 off his four overs. RCB eventually finished on 136 for 7 off 20 overs — falling 58 runs short of the MI total.

Earlier, MI’s batters did well to post a mammoth 194-7 on the board having elected to bat first. Dwayne Smith’s second consecutive half-century (50) and contributions from the in-form Dinesh Karthik (43) and Kieron Pollard (33-ball 43) played a crucial role.
Sachin Tendulkar looked a touch scratchy, but hit four boundaries off Ravi Rampaul in the third over that fetched 16 runs. Just when it looked like Tendulkar, who turned 40 on Wednesday, was settling in, the batting ace was trapped in front of the stumps, trying to guide the ball on the leg side off RP Singh for 23.
