Strauss hopes Poms pull out the last straw

Andrew Strauss praised the spirit of his England team after they bounced back from Friday's comprehensive defeat to level the one-day series against West Indies with a nine-wicket win at the Kensington Oval.

The England captain won the man-of-the-match award for his unbeaten 79 off 61 balls as the tourists chased down a Duckworth/Lewis target of 135 from 20 overs to set up a series decider in St Lucia. England had earlier restricted West Indies to 239 for nine before rain intervened.

"It was a very satisfying win," admitted Strauss.

"What happened has happened (this winter), and it's not been a very satisfactory winter for all sorts of reasons, so it's good to see the spirit is still strong in the team.

The triumph gives England, who have lost Test and one-day series in India and a Test series in the Caribbean this winter, a chance to finish on a high.

"Friday is an opportunity to go home with some silverware which would be very satisfying for the lads and give us some momentum going into the summer," added Strauss. "We need to get rid of that Jekyll and Hyde nature and back-to-back wins would be a fitting end to the winter."
