Vijay Santhanam suffered a severe stroke on the left side of his brain in 2006. Due to which the right side of his body was paralysed.

However, when a friend of his narrated the tragedy to Tendulkar and requested the Little Master to sign an autograph on his picture, he willingly did it with a message: Get well soon.

The three words seemed to have a magical effect as Santhanam recovered from the severe stroke within three months. He is now improvising on his speech and pronunciation.

"It was such a great feeling to get a personal message from an icon player," Santhanam, a regional marketing manager for a lubricant giant, told MiD DAY.

Book release
Santhanam and his friend Shyam Balasubramanian took the opportunity to release the book 'If cricket is a religion, Sachin is God' on Tendulkar's 36th birthday at Tendulkar's, Colaba yesterday. "It is just a way to pay tribute to the legend and to say thank you for his great deeds," he said.

Incidentally, Santhanam's story inspired them to write a book on their favourite cricketer. "Tendulkar is a magical figure to his fans," said Santhanam.

The book claims to reveal insights into Tendulkar's accomplishments, which will surprise even his close followers and friends. "This book is not about what and where it happened. It also tells about why it happened," said Balasubramanian.
