Will Dhoni opt for veteran Dravid?

While veteran batsman Rahul Dravid is expected to make a comeback to one-day cricket, young gun Rohit Sharma will be lucky to duck a bullet when India's cricket selectors meet here to decide on the teams for next month's triangular series in Sri Lanka and the Champions Trophy to follow in South Africa.

The short stuff that the Indians did not fare too well against in the ICC World T20 as well as on the West Indies tour is the main reason for Dravid's return.

It will be interesting to see if Virender Sehwag's medical reports are good enough for him to be Sri Lanka bound, but insiders say he has yet to recover.

Sharma, a promising bat has just not got the big runs to be considered in both squads. Sure, he was part of the victorious Deccan Chargers team in the second edition of the Indian Premier League and he played his part in the success but his form in the 50-over format has been poor. In three innings in the four-match series on the Caribbean tour, Sharma could just manage 15 runs and his last 50-plus score came 13 months ago. However, he was part of India's 2007 World T20 Cup-winning squad. Suresh Raina too hasn't been convincing.

While the selectors don't think it's a bad idea to bring back Dravid, it has to be seen whether skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni will agree with their thinking. After all, Dhoni has been a backer of youth and Dravid's entry could be viewed as a backward step.

It's been nearly two years that Dravid has played limited overs cricket for India. His last match was against Australia at Nagpur in 2007.

Virat Kohli, the dashing Delhi batsman has a good chance of making the squad.u00a0 He was part of the India A squad which won the Emerging Players tournament in Australia recently.
