Former England football captain Steven Gerrard has made a startling revelation in his autobiography, My Story. The 35-year-old midfielder, whose impressive career spanned across almost two decades, has spoken about a rather gruesome incident that nearly threatened his manhood, reported closeronline.co.uk.

The former Liverpool midfielder writes in the book: "The magic of the FA Cup was bloodied on the day my being was cut and then stitched shut on an unromantic afternoon in Bournemouth last year. It was eye-watering. I tried to close down a winger to block his cross but felt a stinging in my privates. I thought, 's*** - that doesn't feel right!' It was stinging like f***."

Gerrard, who has three children with wife Alex Curran, said he panicked, even as his Liverpool teammates found the bloody episode rather humourous. "The gash looked pretty bad, right across the middle. There was plenty of blood. I needed four stitches and the lads were absolutely p*ssing themselves.

You can imagine the jokes about inches and stitches and my future performances at home. I might have smiled, but I could have throttled the lot of them." Gerrard, maintaining his sense of humour in the book, then goes on to refer to his penis as an 'old friend.'

"The doc and I went looking for somewhere quiet. I took off my shorts and underpants and had one last look. Ouch. I hoped I wasn't saying goodbye to an old friend."
Gerrard said that the doctor fortunately salvaged the situation, but despite the trauma, getting back on the ground was the only thing on his mind.

"After I had been bandaged up as protection against any possible infection, I asked the obvious question. "Can I play against Everton on Tuesday?'" Gerrard currently plays for America's Major League Soccer club Los Angeles Galaxy.
