In the girls' U-17 shot put event, 14-year-old Zeshah clinched the yellow metal with a throw of 8.72m, in the process breaking her own championship record of 8.70m. Shloka Sajdeh of St Anne's High School (Fort) won silver with a throw of 7.45m, while Slaiza Irani of The Cathedral and John Connon (Fort) bagged the bronze with an effort of 6.63m.
In the girls' U-17 discus throw event, Zeshah won the gold with a throw of 21.00m, ahead of Saumya Saxena (19.60m) of Gopi Birla Memorial High School (Walkeshwar) and Kashish Patwa (15.95m) of Gopi Birla Memorial High School (Walkeshwar).
Meanwhile, in the javelin throw event, the Class IX student finished second with a throw of 18.66m, behind gold medallist Neeshra Vakharia (21.19m) of Gopi Birla Memorial High School (Walkeshwar). Sonal Tiwari (11.35m) of Holy Cross High School won bronze.
Zeshah attributed her success to elder sister Zenrookh (19), who is also a national level shot put and javelin thrower. “I used to accompany my sister to Rustom Baug (Byculla), where she used to train under our coach Dara Dumasia. While Zenrookh trained, I used to play with the shot put ball. That's when our coach suggested to my father (Shahrukh) that I should get into shot put,” said Zeshah.
