Despite lack of experience of playing in murky conditions, Don Bosco 'B' prevail against VD Gardi in a thrilling contest at MSSA ground
DON Bosco 'B' (Matunga) just about managed to clinch a 2-1 win against Smt V D Gardi (Mulund) in the boys U-16 second division tie at MSSA ground on Saturday. For V D Gardi, some players showed flashes of brilliance, but failed to connect well as a team.

Don Bosco's Arnold Fernandes took a direct shot off a free-kick to open the scoring in the 17th minute. After taking the lead, Don Bosco weren't able to continue their domination, as just a few minutes later, Pratik Poojari (of V D Gardi), took possession of the ball and ran solo but didn't find support near the post and missed a golden opportunity to equalise.
The Matunga side managed to increase their lead in the 29th minute off Royden Dias. At half time, Don Bosco was leading 2-0. But after resumption, Gardi's skipper Yash Morbia reduced the margin in the 45th minute.
After the loss, Gardi's coach Jayant Dhagekar said: "Two to three players were unable to make it as they had tuitions. Our team was very good last year but this time the boys didn't get time to practice."
Don Bosco coach Leslie Machado said that the 'B' team boys weren't as strong as their 'A' team: "These guys play better on dry ground conditions. Also, in this league you can't underestimate any team. Their goalkeeper Vinay Yadav was very good," he said.
