Indian skipper Sunil Chhetri has pointed to poor development of home grown coaches as the reason for foreign coaches being preferred at the national helm.
All India Football Federation (AIFF) is likely to appoint former Dutch international Wim Koevermans as the chief coach of the Indian football team for a two-year term. The approval is likely to come through in AIFF’s executive committee meeting next week.u00a0

“There hasn’t been any long-term coach after Bob Houghton left. I personally feel that there cannot be a debate as to an Indian coach is better or a foreigner. But till the country doesn’t have a coaching system in place, where the Indian coaches go abroad and get the necessary Union of European Football Association’s (UEFA) pro license and come back to train, we will keep having foreign coaches around,” said the 27-year-old Mohun Bagan striker, who was in the city to present Saran Sports with the Limca Book of Records certificate after Saran Corporate 5s was recognised as the World’s longest running and largest corporate soccer 5s event. u00a0
