The rivalry between the two leading Parsi trainers at Mahalaxmi Pesi Shroff and Cooji Katrak is getting fiercer by the day.
It was Katrak who started the season with a bang, scoring a treble on the opening day. Pesi Shroff then quickly swung into action and set a new record by dominating the 2nd, 3rd and 4th racing days with six, four and three winners respectively.
Yesterday, Katrak struck back with vengeance, scoring a hat-trick with Highland Crown (Elusive Pimpernel Trophy), Sea Warrior (Rheinland Pfalz Trophy) and Star Empire (HDFC Ergo Trophy).
All his three winners were ridden by M Fenton and carried the colours of real estate tycoon Rakesh Kumar Wadhwan.
Interestingly, Sea Warrior and Star Empire both humbled Pesi Shroff-trained horses, the latter being more impressive in taming Eloise, of whom much will be heard in future.
Shroff ended the day with one win, thanks to Churchill's (C Ruzaan up) triumph in the Indo German Christmas Trophy, the feature event of the day. The tally at the end of day 5, however, puts Shroff with 15 points ahead of Katrak (8 points.)
