Luck deserted us, says shooter Noria

There are some things that are beyond a sportsperson's control. Else, why would the fancied pair of world champion Ronjon Sodhi and junior world champion, Asher Noria lose out on gold and settle for
silver?

Sodhi was going great guns in the double trap (pairs) event at the Dr Karni Singh shooting range here yesterday. He had shot a perfect 50 in the first round and in Round Two was cruising with 30 out of 30 hits.
But that's when the uncontrollable happened.

A participating shooter raised an objection about the crowd that was gathering near the scoreboard and the referee reacted by halting Sodhi just as he was preparing to take his 31st shot. Sodhi, thus was stopped in his tracks and thereafter it was doom for the Indian pair. Sodhi missed the second shot and never really recovered after that.

Eventually, Stevan Walton and Steven Scott clinched the yellow metal. The British pair aggregated 189 as against the Indian pair's 188. "They shot better than us," said Sodhi.

For his part, world junior champion Noria said: "We didn't have a bad time at all. In fact, it was pretty good. It was a classic case of luck deserting us."
