Maharashtra opened their campaign in the Under-14 AIFF National Championships in style with a commanding 5-1 victory over Jharkand in Kalyani. It was the first meeting of teams in Cluster VI.
Kamran Ansari opened the scoring for Maharashtra in the 7th minute, after which Kolhapur lad Pranav Kanse dominated proceedings, scoring four of Maharashtra’s five goals. He was part of the team that participated in the tournament last year as well.
Ansari’s opener and a brace by Pranav ensured a 3-1 lead for the state boys in he first half. Two more goals by Pranav in the second completed the rout. Maharashtra takes on Delhi in their second group game.
