Having won the toss, Sri Lanka elected to bat first in the match. Batting mainstay Mahela Jayawardene facing just 88 deliveries, played an unbeaten knock of 103 runs. He displayed his class by smashing 13 fours during his knock

Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj Singh registered two wickets each to their names. Harbhajan Singh also bagged one wicket. The Lankans scored a humongous 274 runs against India

India's iconic opening pair Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag entered the ground. Sehwag departed early for a duck followed by Tendulkar losing his wicket for 18 runs

Coming to bat at number three "The Man of Big Matches" Gautam Gambhir played a crucial knock of 97 runs in 122 balls. The former left-hander smashed 9 fours during his knock. India's flamboyant Virat Kohli too shouldered Gambhir in the run-chase before getting dismissed for 35 runs

Soon after losing the wickets of set Gambhir and Kohli, legendary former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni played an unbeaten knock of 91 runs along with Yuvraj Singh who scored 21 runs not out

MS Dhoni was honoured with the "Player of the Match" award for his knock of 91 runs which came in 79 balls. While battling cancer, Yuvraj Singh won the "Player of the Series" award for his contribution. Yuvraj scored 362 runs and also bagged 15 wickets for India
