Clearly enjoying the post pandemic freedom to travel across continents once again, we notice Arjuna Awardee Rehan Poncha’s Instagram feed, filled with images from exotic destinations across the world from the Maldives to the Middle East and from London to Spain.

Rehan Poncha at an Airbnb in Barcelona

Pictures from the star swimmer’s most recent holiday has us vicariously enjoying the sunny shores of Mallorca and Barcelona. The athlete enjoys travel blogging and trying new experiences. “I stayed with Airbnb for the first time on my visit to Spain. The apartments were all centrally located, beautifully appointed and fully equipped with a kitchen and even laundry facilities, making it feel like a home away from home!”

The athlete is an art and history buff and enjoyed his visit to iconic Gaudi masterpieces  across the city. “Sagrada Familia is just breathtakingly beautiful, vividly colourful and truly captivating. Gaudi’s architectural creations were very unique and probably shaped the way of thinking about architecture for a whole generation. I have truly enjoyed seeing his work scattered across the city from Park Guell to Casa Batllo.”

Equally captivating for Rehan was the church of Montserrat. “Montserrat is just a half day trip from Barcelona and very easy to get to by train. There’s a lovely cable car up the mountain with spectacular views of the serrated mountain. The monastery with the Black Madonna is as beautiful as it is powerful!”

He tells us that his Airbnb was very centrally located. “It was just five minutes from La Rambla, a busy area filled with cafes and shops, and I enjoyed my walks there, people watching and taking in the historical sites.”

Food has always played a very central role in Rehan’s holidays. “It’s my Parsi blood!” he jokes. “We are all foodies and Spanish food is outstanding. From a simple coffee con leche on my apartment balcony watching the sunrise, to trying the menu del dia on one of the many award winning café’s that surrounded it to trying the famous tapas, Spain is a foodie’s delight!”

Where to next, we wonder! “For now, there are golf tournaments to focus on,” says the swimmer turned golfer, “But you can definitely expect more travel towards the end of the year!” We look forward to it!
