Director Danny Boyle met Indian composer A R Rahman after he did the background score for his movie, Slumdog Millionaire.

Danny was very keen on getting Rahman on board the project but they could not meet and all the discussions were done by net on via the internet.

How Rahman was brought on

A source reveals, "Danny was very clear from day one that he only wanted Rahman to score the music of the film. He told his crew and even India Take One Productions, the line producers in India, to get Rahman at any cost.

After he finished shooting the film, his production team got him the Chennai number of Rahman and the two spoke at length and that's how Rahman came in the project."

Note exchange

The source further adds, "Once the first rough cut of the movie was complete, Danny sent it to Rahman. After watching the cut, Rahman was moved and liked the film immensely. He finished scoring the entire music in a record 20 days and sent the tracks with the movie to Danny with a small note.

The note said that he had really loved the movie and it reminded him of Shawshank Redemption. When Danny saw the note, he was happy and was blown away by Rahman's composition. But he didn't take too kindly to his film being compared to the Tim Robbins starrer.

Tongue firmly in cheek, he sent the musician note back asking which film he'd watched because his film was nothing like Shawshank!"
