Sayani Ghosh: Grateful for all the appreciation

Actress Sayani Ghosh, who ventured into Bollywood with the critically acclaimed film "Margarita With A Straw", says she is grateful for all the appreciation coming her way.

Sayani earned an honourable mention for the Best Actress award for her short film "Leeches" at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA).

The actress shared the award with her co-star Preeti Golacha.

"I had two films playing at IFFLA this year and both won best films in their category. 'Parched' won Best Film Special Mention Feature and 'Leeches' won Best film Special Mention Short. It's been a fortunate start for me in films and each day I'm only grateful for all the appreciation coming my way," Sayani said in a statement.

"Winning a Best Actress at IFFLA is no short of one of the most flattering moments of my small yet satisfying acting life so far. Here's hoping to many more," she added.

Sayani also said her character Raisa in "Leeches" is "very close" to her heart.

"I lived in a Burqa for 12 days and got to shoot in the most ghetto corners of Hyderabad," she added.

Raisa is the volatile protagonist of "Leeches," a film that is ultimately about a sister's love, and her heartbreaking sacrifice, set against the backdrop of temporary marriage in poor Muslim communities in the old city of Hyderabad.
