Yeh Saali Zindagi - Movie review

Yeh Saali Zindagi
A; Thriller
Dir: Sudhir Mishra
Cast: Irrfan Khan, Chitrangada Singh, Arunoday Singh, Aditi Rao Hydari
Rating: **1/2

WHAT'S IT ABOUT:
Crime, politics, corruption, money-laundering and love intertwine as a wicked, yet loveable Mr Fix-It-All Arun (Khan) and small-time gangster Kuldeep (Arunoday) find their paths crossing in a kidnap case. Arun's ladylove Preeti (Chitrangada) is involved. He is hellbent on saving her even though she is involved with another guy Shyam (Vipul Gupta). It takes a bunch of assorted henchmen and bullets to aid them in the rescue act.

WHATS HOT: It is a typical Sudhir Mishra filmu00a0-- dark, edgy and in-your-face. As storywriter, screenwriter and director, he leaves his mark in every frame. As they say in filmi lingo, it is hatke. It does not follow the usual B-Town formula for success and Mishra has never cared to follow the dictum as in his most-known projects like Hazaaron Khwahishein Aisi and Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin. Khan is splendid and so is his support Mehta (Shukla) and Sushant Singh as the corrupt cop.

WHATS NOT: As there are several characters with each of their tales running parallel and moving from one location to another, it may get tedious to keep track. Too many things unfold in the first half in quick succession. There are too many cheesy lines. There is a barrage of expletives and cuss words that all the characters spew which sometimes appear forced and overdone. Also Kuldeep (Arunoday) does not miss a single moment to liplock with Shanti (Rao) and tries to give Emraan Hashmi a run for his money.

WHAT TO DO: This film is only for those audience who appreciate this genre of cinemau00a0-- dark and dreary. For those looking for a change in the typical masala fare dished outu00a0-- it is worth watching once. But for those who live on B-Town floss, this could prove heavy.
