Hrithik Roshan and Yash

Director Om Raut is readying Adipurush, based on the Ramayana, for the big screen. The Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan-starrer doesn’t seem to have deterred filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari from embarking on his retelling of the epic, which will be backed by Madhu Mantena and Allu Aravind. Recent reports indicate that Hrithik Roshan, who was to play Ravana, has opted out. Going by the audience’s reaction to Super 30 and War, the actor apparently believes that his fans prefer seeing him in positive roles. So, he isn’t eager to play a negative character. Madhu, who is also the boss of the talent agency that manages Yash, has apparently begun discussions with the KGF actor. The Kannada actor is also said to be in the reckoning for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s two-part film on Karna. While Ranbir Kapoor is said to be on board to play Ram in Nitesh’s adaptation, it remains to be seen if Yash agrees to play the antagonist.

Back to shoot

While Pathaan breaks records in its first week in cinemas, Shah Rukh Khan is gearing up to resume filming Jawan from February 1. He will shoot some action sequences for Atlee’s directorial venture. The superstar will be joined by Sanya Malhotra for the schedule. Priyamani, and Vijay Sethupathi, who plays the antagonist in the film, will shoot their remaining portions later next month. Also featuring Nayanthara and Sunil Grover, Jawan is being readied for a June 2 release.

To new beginnings

Ace cricketer and former Indian captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has officially announced his maiden venture as a producer. Starring Harish Kalyan, Ivana and veteran actor Nadiya, Ramesh Thamilmani’s directorial venture was launched by producer Sakshi Dhoni with a puja recently. MSD also shared the movie’s motion poster, which opens with a caravan on a forest road, and gives a glimpse of the principal cast. LGM is said to revolve around an adventurous road trip.

Role call

Akashdeep Sabir, who will be seen in Shehzada, Selfiee, and Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, is on the lookout for more interesting roles. “Given my personality, I’m being offered roles that see me as a rich, loud and funny Punjabi. I need to move from that space and attempt something challenging,” says the actor, adding that this second innings “happened by chance”.  “It took me time to get back to feeling comfortable. But now, I want to now push the envelope as an actor.”

It’s the time to party!

Ekta Kapoor recently hosted a party to celebrate Lakadbaggha. The producer is impressed by the Anshuman Jha-starrer. Their association goes back to 2010, when he acted in her production venture, LSD: Love Sex Aur Dhokha, helmed by Dibakar Banerjee. Honey Trehan, Sanjay Suri, Soni Razdan, Gurfateh Pirzada, Sharib Hashmi, Elli AvrRam, Priyanshu Painyuli, Amit Masurkar, Banerjee and several others joined in the revelry. Anshuman said, “I’m grateful to Ekta for launching me a decade ago in LSD, and for her unwavering support to films like Lakadbaggha, which is a pure love letter to dogs.”

Bhumi loves night shoots

Bhumi Pednekar is having sleepless nights of late. No, she hasn’t become an insomniac, but is shooting for her next, Mere Husband Ki Biwi, in the city. Admitting that she loves shooting after dark, Bhumi says, “As a creative person, nothing inspires me more than the stillness of the night. I feel energised, and more focussed. While it messes up my sleep and rest, I love night shoots and look forward to them.” The actor, who is joined by Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh in the Mudassar Aziz-helmed movie, adds, “There is something about the night that always got me going since my first film, and the feeling hasn’t changed.”

Vicky Kaushal turns DJ again

Vicky Kaushal put an end to the speculation about who plays DJ Mohabbat in Anurag Kashyap’s next, Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat. Sharing his picture from the film, Vicky wrote, “My mohabbat for the man who opened my first door to the movies. DJ Sandz of Manmarziyaan grows up to become DJ Mohabbat.” The actor had played a part-time disc jockey in Kashyap’s 2018 romantic drama. Doing a cameo in the filmmaker’s next was a no-brainer for him. Vicky added, “Anurag sir has been a mentor, a friend, and my window into the world of cinema. When he spoke to me about this role, I was immediately on board.” Starring Alaya F and Karan Mehta, the drama about inter-faith romance is said to be Kashyap’s ode to modern love.

Interestingly, Kajol also attended the bash at Shruti’s Mumbai home. The Salaar actor chose her favourite colour, black, as the theme for the party. Sharing several pictures from the celebrations, Shruti wrote, “Best birthday ever. I’m so thankful for the beautiful souls around me.”
