Pankaj Udhas' prayer meet will happen on Saturday

Legendary ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas passed away on Monday, February 26, following a prolonged illness. His last rites were held yesterday at his residence in Mumbai. Several celebrities arrived to pay their condolences to the bereaved family.


Today, Nayaab Udhas took to her Instagram and shared that Pankaj Udhas’ prayer meeting will be held on Saturday, 2nd March. Nayaab shared a picture of the late Pankaj Udhas which has text written on it. It reads, “PRAYER MEET WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY, 2ND MARCH, 2024 TRIDENT HOTEL, THE ROOFTOP, NARIMAN POINT. 4:00 PM-6:00 PM”

About Pankaj Udhas's death

Ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas has passed away after suffering from a prolonged illness, his family has said in a statement. The singer was known for his soulful ghazals and playback singing in films.

"With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to a prolonged illness," Nayaab wrote in an Instagram post.

Celebs extend condolences

Several celebrities, including singers Sonu Nigam and Anup Jalota, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and others have extended their condolences. Sonu Nigam took to his Instagram, posted an image of the legendary singer, and wrote, "One of the most important parts of my childhood is lost today. Shri Pankaj Udhas ji, I will miss you forever. My heart cries knowing that you are no more. Thank you for being there. Om Shanti (sic)."

Meanwhile, Anup Jalota, a close friend, shared on Instagram, "Shocking (sad face emoji) Music legend & my Friend #PankajUdhas passes away. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his Family and loved ones during this difficult time (sic)."

Pankaj Udhas was born on May 17, 1951, in Jetpur, Gujarat. In addition to ghazals, he was well-known for his film work. In 1980, he gained widespread popularity for his solo ghazal album 'Aahat.' Later, he recorded other successes, including 'Mukarar' (1981), 'Tarrannum' (1982), 'Mehfil' (1983), and many more. Some of his popular renditions are 'Chitthi Aayee Hai,' 'Chandani Raat Mein,' 'Na Kajre Ki Dhaar,' 'Aur Ahista Kijiye Baatein,' 'Ek Taraf Uska Ghar,' and 'Thodi Thodi Piya Karo.'
