Salim Khan, along with Javed Akhtar, has penned some of the most iconic blockbusters of Hindi Cinema. Their partnership began in 1971 and together, they wrote the dialogues for cults like Deewar, Zanjeer, Sholay, Don, Trishul, and Mr. India, which was their last film together. In an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Salim Khan spoke about Amitabh Bachchan and why he feels the star should now take retirement.

Khan said, “Amitabh Bachchan should retire now. He has achieved all that he had to in this life. One should keep a few years of life for oneself as well. Amitabh Bachchan has played a brilliant innings professionally. He has done good work so he must free himself from the race. He must take a graceful retirement.”

He added, “Amitabh Bachchan was the hero who could play an angry young man, he still is. However, there are no stories for an actor like Amitabh now. Our films have improved technically, the music and action have improved but we do not have good scripts.”

Bachchan made his debut in Hindi Cinema with Saat Hindustani in 1969 and was then seen in films like Zanjeer, Sholay, Deewar, Chupke Chupke, Don, Trishul, Mr. Natwarlal, Shaan, Coolie, Naseeb, Shakti, Satte Pe Satta, Shahenshah, Hum, Khuda Gawah. The star celebrated his 79th birthday on October 11 and greeted fans outside his residence Jalsa.
