Subhash Ghai Top 5 Movies

If you're here, you must be a Bollywood buff. And if you are, then you must have heard of the legendary filmmaker Subhash Ghai. He is known for creating some of the most iconic movies in the Indian film industry. In case you are wondering which ones are his best, here are the top 5 movies that you should definitely watch.

Kalicharan (1976)

Subhash Ghai's directorial debut, "Kalicharan," remains a pivotal chapter in his legendary career. This explosive action-drama featured Shatrughan Sinha in a dual role as an upright police officer and a ruthless criminal with a striking resemblance. The film's immense popularity led to its remakes in various languages, including Telugu (Khaidi Kalidasu), Kannada (Kaalinga), Tamil (Sangili), and Malayalam (Pathamudayam).

Karz (1980)

Revered as an all-time classic, "Karz" stands as one of the most compelling reincarnation narratives in cinematic history. Rishi Kapoor's portrayal of a reincarnated singer seeking justice for his past life's murder set a benchmark, inspiring subsequent films, notably the 2007 blockbuster "Om Shanti Om." The film's outstanding soundtrack elevated it to new heights, establishing Subhash Ghai as a dominant force in the 1980s.

Vidhaata (1982)

A pinnacle of success in the early '80s, "Vidhaata" emerged as the highest-grossing film of 1982. This emotionally charged drama, blending action, family dynamics, and romance, boasted a stellar cast including Dilip Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Padmini Kolhapure, and Sanjay Dutt. The film delves into the conflicts between a young man and his grandfather, who finds himself on the wrong side of the law.

Hero (1983)

Subhash Ghai's triple role as writer, producer, and director culminated in the 1983 blockbuster "Hero." While the film boasted a strong ensemble cast, it is remembered for catapulting Jackie Shroff into stardom. Shroff portrayed a hoodlum transformed by love after kidnapping the daughter of a senior police officer. The film's intricate layers led to remakes in various languages, with Ghai's signature collection of soul-stirring songs.

Karma (1986)

Following the success of "Hero" and the blockbuster "Meri Jung" (1985), Subhash Ghai continued his winning streak with the biggest hit of 1986, "Karma." Ghai wrote, produced, and directed this memorable multi-starrer, featuring Dilip Kumar as a high-ranking police officer assembling a team of formidable criminals, played by Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, and Naseeruddin Shah, to confront a formidable villain. Despite being an action film, "Karma" resonated with audiences for its beloved songs, including the patriotic anthem "Aye Watan Tere Liye."
