Mumbai Police has seized 672 e-bikes and fined 180 e-bikes as various food delivery apps allegedly failed to convince their drivers to follow traffic norms, the police said on Monday.

“We had written letters to various food delivery apps that drivers who are wearing the uniform of the apps are negligent about following traffic norms, and we had warned them that action would be taken against the violators. The apps had failed to convince their own drivers,” the police said.

From December 18 to December 29, the police took action and seized 672 e-bikes and fined 180 e-bikes. “Action was taken against the riders of the food delivery apps too. Most of the drivers had violated the traffic norms and had engaged in verbal altercations with the officers,” the officer said.

“Action will be taken as per the law for those who create a nuisance. Riders who are breaking signals, overspeeding, or are not wearing helmets will be fined. E-bikes will be seized if necessary. The Mumbai Traffic Police are patrolling the city and are taking action against those who violate traffic norms,” Anil Kumbare, Joint Commissioner of the Traffic Department, told mid-day.
