When asked whether Singh has resigned, Patil confirmed and said, “Yes, he met me and expressed his desire to quit.” Sources claim that BJP leaders, including Rajnath Singh, have approached the top cop to contest the forthcoming elections from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.
Those in the race to fill the post include Additional DGP (law and order) Javed Ahmed, Additional DGP (traffic) Vijay Kamble and Anti-Terrorism Squad chief Rakesh Maria.
