The incident took place on March 15 at around 10.36 pm. Women commuters travelling in second class ladies compartment of the Khopoli-bound local informed the Railway Police at Diva station that a young lady had jumped into the creek between Mumbra and Diva stations, leaving behind her mobile phone and shoulder bag in the train.
"After examining the monthly railway pass found in her bag, the girl was identified as Divya Singh, 23, resident of Badlapur. The police immediately informed her parents about the incident," said inspector Shivaji Dhumal of Thane railway police station.
The police found a suicide note in Divya's shoulder bag. It stated that she took the extreme step as she was depressed over the marriage being called off and nobody should be held responsible for her death.
