On Maharashtra's 64th Foundation Day, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar paid tribute to the heroes of the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement at Hutatma Chowk in Mumbai and the Pune Police Headquarters, respectively.

"On the occasion of Maharashtra Day, paid a visit to Hutatma Chowk to pay tribute to all the 106 martyrs who sacrificed for the union of Mumbai and Maharashtra. On this occasion, Mumbai Guardian Minister Mangalprabhat Lodha, MLA Yamini Jadhav, State Chief Secretary Nitin Karir, Culture Department Secretary Vikas Kharge, Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla were present," CM Shinde wrote on X.

Meanwhile, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar in his social media post wrote, "The flag hoisting ceremony on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of the formation of Maharashtra State was held at Police Sanchal Maidan in Pune. On this occasion, we saluted the national flag."

Former Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray, along with MLA Aaditya Thackeray and other party members, paid tribute to those who gave their lives for the cause, reported ANI.

According to the report, Uddhav Thackeray recognised the value of their sacrifice and offered thanks, saying, "It is our responsibility to honour those who laid down their lives for Mumbai."

The Samyukta Maharashtra Parishad, which preceded the Samyukta Maharashtra Samiti, advocated for a separate Marathi-speaking state, with Bombay as its capital. It was founded in 1955 under the leadership of Keshavrao Jedhe who spearheaded the effort to establish Maharashtra, the report added.

CM Eknath Shinde recently announced the Shiv Sena candidates for Mumbai South and Mumbai North West Lok Sabha constituencies. Yamini Jadhav, backed by Shinde's side, will run against Sena UBT MP Arvind Sawant in Mumbai South. Ravindra Waikar, another MLA who shifted allegiance to Shinde, will face MVA candidate Amol Kirtikar in Mumbai North West, the ANI report stated.
