An entire portion of 3-storey building in Byculla area of Mumbai on Tuesday afternoon collapsed and relief operations at the spot were underway, the civic officials said.


No injuries were reported in the incident, the officials said.


According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the incident took place at around 12:42 pm at Karim Building located at Maulana Azad Road in Madanpura area of Byculla in central Mumbai.


The first-floor slab and plaster of a G+3 structure also collapsed following which the evacuation of at least 30 rooms and 8 shops was done, an official said.

Following the incident emergency services, including the Mumbai Fire Brigade, local police, BEST, ward staff, and the 108 ambulance were rushed to the spot.

The building is a Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) property and the MHADA staff are currently on-site to assess the damage and ensure the safety of residents and shopkeepers, the civic body said.

"There was no report of injury to anyone," the official said.

Fire destroys dairy outlet in Thane; no casualty

Meanwhile, in an another incident, a fire broke out at a dairy products shop in Maharashtra's Thane city in the wee hours of Tuesday, officials said, reported the PTI.

No casualty was reported, they said, adding the shop was completely gutted.

The blaze erupted at the shop located near a school on Sabegaon Road in Diva area at 1.41 am and quickly engulfed the establishment, Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said, as per the PTI.


No person was injured in the incident, he said, according to the PTI.

After being alerted, local fire personnel, regional disaster management cell team, power supply company officials and police rushed to the spot.

Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control by 2.53 am. Cooling operations continued till 3.40 am to ensure no further flare-ups, the official said.

The shop and all its equipment, including three refrigerators, were completely charred, he added.

A probe was on to find out the cause of the blaze, the news agency reported on Tuesday.
