Raakesh Agarvwal on his newly introduced pret collect that can be worn for brunches
With pret, which is ready to wear, you are now reaching out to a wider audience.
Yes, I started with diffusion line. Moved on to limited edition couture and as we grew, I felt the need to reach out to a wider audience. And ready-to-wear is in demand, what with the recession and the spring summer upon us. (Laughs)

What are the changes you see in the silhouette in casual or ready-to-wear?
Earlier women wore kurtis and trousers. But now they want variety. If they opt for the Indian wear, they want it to be stylish. Embroidery was the centre of attraction for women at one point. Now it's fabrics and cut. And today's working women want simple and yet stylish cuts. The psychology has changed.
And you are giving them what they want?
See, my outfits can be mixed and matched. You can wear a Raakesh Agarvwal and yet make a statement of your own. Who spends hours at the tailor anymore? Pret is in demand. And I have to give them options that would give them not only a fabulous fit but also compliment their body.
So you think it's the tale of the diminishing body size?
Look I don't believe in size zero. And if I were to make clothes keeping size zero in mind, I would be designing for only 200 women in the country. Yes, women are much more body conscious now. But I do have XL and XXL sizes too.
And the prices to match it too?
(Laughs) No...no...not at all. In fact, my collection starts from Rs 990 and you can pick up T-shirts and broaches. Trousers start from Rs 1,900 onwards. And before you ask me, yes, the pricing are keeping in mind both recession and bigger and wider market.
