Tree lovers, residents claim civic body's expert panel furnished wrong information about trees on Bhanuvilas theatre premise
Tree lovers have filed a complaint at the Vishrambaug police station stating that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) violated Bombay High Court directives by chopping a 70-year-old tree. They added that the PMC had also not bothered to plant three trees in its place.
The PMC chopped the tree at Bhanuvilas theatre in Narayan Peth yesterday morning. Dhananjay Gaikwad, president, Shanivar Peth Mitra Mandal, and his activists approached the police on learning of the axing of the tree.
"We urged the police to take action against the PMC. The tree is 70 years old but the PMC experts arrived at the wrong age and chopped it."
Social activist Ganesh Ghodke said the expert committee of the garden Department of the PMC gave a wrong report.
"Instead of 14 trees at the Bhanuvilas talkies, they mentioned only seven trees without providing any details. We doubt their survey methods," he said.
