MiD DAY had earlier reported Lakshamma's murder ('Woman slain over property issues', August 9). Her daughters and neighbours had then claimed that it was a murder for gain, but now it has turned out that one of the killers, Manjunath, was living in a rented accommodation with his friends in a property owned by Lakshamma. Her daughter had then said that her mother had differences with their father Krishnamurthy and her son. She owned more than 60 commercial complexes and other properties.

On August 9, the gang, which included Manjunath, Karthik, Ravi Kiran and Mallikarjun had planned to rob her. So they went to her house on the pretext of paying rent. Once they were inside, they threatened Laxamma, and asked her to part with her jewellery. When she resisted, they killed her, and made off with jewellery worth more than Rs 5 lakh. After the police failed to crack the case, it was handed over to the CCB.
