This problem is not confined to international cricket alone, but domestic too like the Ranji Trophy.
"As a cricket association, there is definitely a need to rationalise the amount of cricket that is played, as there is hardly any scope to revise the dates" Shirke added.
Borde agrees
But former chairman of the selection committee Chandu Borde justified the BCCI's decision and said it was a move in the right direction.
"I am sure the BCCI has taken this decision after considering all aspects of security. In the present scenario, the board must have felt that it would not be a wise decision to hold the tournament here."
The IPL has shifted abroad this year after the BCCI failed to secure the government's approval after some matches clashed with the polling dates for the general elections.
The tournament is scheduled to be held from April 10 to May 24, while the Lok Sabha elections will take place across the country in five different
phases between April 16 and May 13.
