After a two-month hiatus the popular Gujarati play is back on stage with Tiku Talsania in the lead role
Kanji Viruddh Kanji, the play in which an atheist businessman takes on the might of God, ran for 253 shows before actor Sachin Khedekar decided to step down from the lead role.
Under normal circumstances, with the lead actor gone the play would have been shelved. But director Umesh Shukla's conviction about the script was so strong that he decided not just to revive the play but even produce it himself this time.
In the new version, actor Tiku Talsania essays the role of the Kanjee from Bhuleshwar. "It's very rare that we come across a well-written, balanced and thought-provoking play which the audience also enjoys watching," says the actor.
Shukla admits he was sacred about the audience reaction to the few changes he made to the script and towards the new cast of the play. "Luckily, the play hasn't changed muchu00a0-- in terms of performance as well as collections at the box office," says the director.
