Amid speculation that Congress and DMK have sorted out their differences over cabinet berths to pave the way for the regional party to join the UPA government, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's son M K Azhagiri, who is tipped to become a cabinet minister today left for New Delhi.

Azhagiri's departure, along with his family members and some supporters, comes in the wake of report that his party worked out a formula with Congress under which the DMK would be provided with three cabinet berths.

Besides Azhagiri, his cousin Dayanidhi Maran and senior DMK leader A Raja are tipped to join the UPA government as cabinet ministers along with four Ministers of State. According to reports here, Azhagiri may take over as Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers while Maran and Raja will be handling Textiles and IT and Communications, respectively.

However, there was no information on the departure of other DMK MPs including its Parliamentary party leader and former union minister T R Baalu. Meanwhile, after two days of hectic parleys with his party colleagues, Karunanidhi left for the Secretariat today morning, with a slew of official engagements listed for him.
