We've seen quite a few music festivals celebrating Hazrat Amir Khusrau's works in the recent past. The 13th century poet's works feature quite often in Bollywood films too.

But a play that strings together episodes from Khusrau's life seems a novelty. Playwright Purva Naresh's latest play Aaj Rang Hai is a production that team up music, dance and story-telling quite skillfully.

The protagonist of the play, Beni, a former baithak singer, plays the neighbourhood counsellor and solves other people's problems by quoting stories from Khusrau's life.

Naresh, being a trained Classical dancer herself seeks inspiration from Khusrau's works quite often. "For my dance performances, I would invariably turn towards Khusrau. It was a subject that I was quite keen on bringing on stage as a play," she says. Apart from Naresh's choreography, the USP of the play are the musical performances by traditional qawwals of Lucknow, Haider Baqsh and Party. This one's a visual and cerebral treat.

This morning, head to Marine Drive for a Save Our Tigers Parade organised by Kids For Tigers, a programme launched by the Sanctuary Asia magazine, a decade ago. Join more than 600 kids who will be spreading awareness on the magnificent beast through demonstrations, face painting, street plays and sloganeering. Warli artists will be performing to build the mood.
