When 23-year-old Pooja Bhatia's body was found floating in a Faridabad lake on March 2, many had termed it suicide. The mystery was finally solved on Thursday, with the arrest of her boss, Baljit Singh. Pooja was murdered, the police said.
The victim was working at the Sparsh Intelnet call centre located at NOIDA, Sector 2. On March 1, she had gone out to play Holi with her colleagues. Later, she was reported missing.
"When she did not return the next day, we got a missing person's complaint lodged at Sector-24 police station on the night of March 2," said Pooja's brother-in-law Dalip Bhatia.
Her family then filed a complaint against her boss, Baljit Singh, on March 3, claiming he had abducted her. The family said Pooja had gone from her home to a place near Sommerville School in NOIDA where Baljit had called her for a holi party. He had also reportedly asked Pooja not to bring her identity card and purse.
The police started zeroing in on Baljit who reportedly was infatuated with Pooja and was angry that she was interested in someone else.
"Pooja and Baljit were involved in a love triangle. During interrogation Baljit confessed that Pooja was having an affair with a guy called Amit Chauhan and that Balijit was furious with this. So he took her to Badkal Lake near his residence in Green Field Colony and after a heated argument he killed her and threw her body in to the water," said a senior police officer.
Baljit was arrested by the police on Wednesday night and he has reportedly confessed to the crime. Superintendent of Police (city) Ashok Kumar Tripathi said: "A case of murder has been registered at NOIDA, Sector-24 police station based on the family's complaint."
