Marhaba's menu may boast of authentic Lebanese cuisine. But just because it's there, doesn't mean it will be served, What's On found
Marhaba, which means "welcome" in Arabic, is the new eatery to open shop in Oshiwara. And though they do make you feel welcome, the charm wears off soon enough. The multi-cuisine restaurant, a brainchild of Musa and Jumana Al Habeeb (a husband-wife duo from the Gulf), fails to deliver what it promises to give you the best of Lebanese cuisine. We were dished out a Continental and Chinese menu, before we asked for the Lebanese one, which was dished out reluctantly.
Ambience: The cane chairs with blue cushions in the patio look inviting, but aren't too comfortable. The indoor area has an ice-cream parlour feel. Here, you can order fresh juices and slushes.
Food: The menu looked exciting. We decided to try the special Marhaba platter, an assortment of meats. A polite waiter said it would take a long time, and suggested we try something else. "Shawarma?" he asked. No. That's what we can easily get at roadside stalls. "Meat Biryani, then?" we said. Not available, he said. The restaurant didn't have the capsicum that needed to go in it. So, we settled for the Omani Pulao (Rs 200), Roast Chicken with Pita Bread (Rs 125) and an Exotic Vegetable Salad. Stay away from the salad. Our's had bitter cucumber and red capsicum masquerading as "exotic" veggies. The Roast Chicken was the saving grace.
We suggest: That Marhaba should resist serving food in brittle plastic plates. And while they are at it, why not stock up on all raw materials, especially on a Sunday afternoon when people are looking for a place to eat.
