As the first anniversary of the 26/11 terror attacks approaches, security arrangements at Jewish installations in the city have been beefed up. Gun-totting policeman have been posted outside Chabad House, the Jewish Centre of Pune, fearing a possible attack on the centre.
While security arrangements are visible outside Chabad House, its illustrious neighbour, the Osho International Meditation Resort has been left to fend for itself. Both Chabad House and the Osho resort are located in Koregaon Park, one of the city's most upmarket areas.
People from nearly 100 countries including US, UK, Germany, Belgium, Holland, France, Israel and other countries visit the resort.
'Resort is secure'
The spokesperson of the Osho Resort Maa Sadhana said, "We are working with the concerned authorities. The Osho resort has been secure, and security also has been upgraded."
The commune declined to give any statistics about the break up of the foreigners who are present at the resort including those from Israel. Sadhana said "It is clearly not appropriate to provide details."
However, when MiD DAY spoke to John, a US citizen currently visiting the resort, he said that visitors were not frisked by any policemen before entering the resort. He added that visitors are only asked to undergo an AIDS test before they are allowed to participate in the activities inside.
Suzzane, a UK citizen, added that she had not seen any cops, but only private security guards inside the resort.
According to the police, the reason why they have stepped up security at the Chabad House is because they have received intelligence inputs to guard all Jewish places as there could be threat perception from terrorists.
An official of Chabad House refused to comment on the security upgrade.
