Always thought social work was a serious affair? Pune's Inner Wheel Club will change your perception. The club, which started in 1989 and, now comprises 38 members aged between 25 and 55 years, organises various
events like blood and eye donation camps, holding peace rallies, rain water harvest; all with a tinge of entertainment.
President Jyotsana Jadhav, a businesswoman by profession, said, "I have been in the club for only two years, but I have learnt a lot. This club is all about fun, but with a cause."
"I always thought social work is a serious issue, but the club has changed my perception," he added.
Making a difference
Jagruti Malaviya, ex-president of the club and a homemaker, said, "I am a member since nine years and this club is for those who want to do real social work. We put up programmes like Ek Hi Aasha, where we felicitated parents who have only one daughter and are not planning another child to encourage an end to female foeticide."
She added that they celebrate every festival and also organise annual picnics.
A thorough survey is done before the club decides to support a cause. They then search for sponsors and raise funds through events like a musical night or dance shows.
Another ex-president, Madhuri Kothawade, said, "I have been associated with this club for 10 years.u00a0 We work on projects like population control or eco-friendly missions. Our meetings are full of fun, as we play games and dress up traditionally on festivals."
