IN PIECES: Shiv Sainiks vandalised Hotel Intercontinental Grand on January 21

On January 21, around 500 Shiv Sainiks vandalised Hotel Intercontinental Grand near the airport while the police merely watched. And the next day, supporters of suspended Congressman Narayan Rane vandalised the office of the Marathi daily, Navakaal. An MNS leader wrote a letter to the owner of Karachi Sweets in Mulund, threatening "agitation" if he did not change the shop's name within a week.

Party leaders often resort to such means to create a divide among citizens during elections. But, as citizens we must take a strong stance to nip such criminal activities in the bud.

The police commissioner should arrest and prosecute political terrorists who threaten the people and vandalise public property. Parties inciting violence should not be allowed to contest elections.

The society, on the whole, should send out a strong message to party chiefs condemning their undemocratic action.u00a0u00a0
